Maryrose Kohan

Maryrose Kohan is the head coach and a full-time speech and debate educator at George Washington High School in Denver, Colorado, where she has coached for the past 12 years. She is the coach of the 2010 TOC PF Champions and her students placed 13th at NSDA Nationals in 2014. Additionally, she has coached students to late elimination rounds in Public Forum and other events at invitational tournaments around the country including Bronx, UC Berkeley, Alta, Glenbrooks, and Stanford. She can’t wait to work with students this summer at ISD: Colorado!

Albi Manfredi

Albi Manfredi is a three-time ISD alumnus. He was highly competitive in Public Forum Debate for all four years of high school at Lake Mary Prep in Orlando, Florida. Throughout his career, Albi amassed a total of 17 bids to the Tournament of Champions, semi-finaled at Yale and the Tournament of Champions, was the Florida State Runner-Up, and championed the Blue Key Round Robin, the Crestian Tradition, and the Sunvitational. Individually, he achieved top speaker at the Blake Tournament, Emory’s Barkley Forum, and Florida States. He finished his career placing 5th at NSDA Nationals. He could not be happier to be a part of the ISDDifference again this summer.

Christian Brown

​Christian Brown has attend Ardrey Kell High School in North Carolina for four years, and is a co-captain of public forum this season. In his junior year he won the Blue Key Round Robin, finished first place at the Patriot Games at George Mason University, first place at the Cavalier Invitational at Durham Academy, reached the quarterfinals of the Barkley Forum at Emory and finished top 20 at the NSDA National Tournament. He also advanced to elimination rounds at Blake, Blue Key, Harvard, Glenbrooks and the NCFL National Tournament. As an individual, he won a 7th speaker award at Harvard and 5th at Emory. Christian is an alum of ISD 2017 and can’t wait to return to the ISD Family this summer!

Gabe Rusk

Gabe Rusk is currently the Director of Debate at the Fairmont Preparatory Academy in Anaheim, California. In his first year as director Fairmont Prep became the national TOC gold bid leader in PF. Fairmont qualified eight teams to the TOC in 2018 alone. Gabe has been a coach in Public Forum Debate for close to a decade and has taught over a thousand students in that time. Gabe has been the director or senior instructor at over a dozen camps and institutes. During high school Gabe was a PF competitor himself winning the 2010 Tournament of Champions in Public Forum Debate. After taking a debate scholarship to attend college he was awarded 4th place at the 2014 national university parli competition. Gabe then attended the University of Oxford as a graduate student with a focus on religion and the law. He graduated in 2016 where his dissertation focused on the history of the First Amendment and pluralism in the United States. At Oxford he was offered a place on the competitive traveling team, won best floor speech at the Oxford Debate Union, and was appointed the LGBTQIA+ Officer for the world’s oldest debating society. Gabe was also elected as the international students officer representing over 7,000 students during his time at Oxford. He cannot wait to join the ISD Faculty and spend another summer working with students!

Bilal Butt

Bilal Butt is currently Assistant Director at Charlotte Latin School. His teams have earned a long list of impressive results. Over his coaching career, his teams have closed out Yale (1st and 2nd place), championed the George Mason Invitational, reached Finals of Wake Forest, Harvard, Blake, and NCFL Grand Nationals, reached Semifinals of the New York City, Emory and Glenbrooks invitational tournaments. They also reached Quarterfinals at the Tournament of Champions. Bilal has also helped coach two teams to the quarterfinals of the NSDA World Schools Invitational (out of 200 teams). Bilal is very excited to be returning to ISD for another outstanding summer!
