Why ISD
A Commitment to Our Community
We set the bar for excellence in speech and debate programs. Our programs are different, and that’s the way we like it. See what sets us apart and makes ISD the very best speech and debate camp in the country.
Equal Access to Top Faculty
Every lab is taught by an adult senior instructor. The junior instructors - all top former competitors - rotate so that EVERY student gets to work with them.
Individualized Attention
Our faculty get to know each student and provide fresh ideas, perspective, and coaching that helps each student grow. This is the core of the ISD experience.
Fun Activities
Our host locations are chosen for learning and for fun. Our campuses offer space for fun activities and great access to local attractions!
ISD Family
Come for camp, and you’ll join a community that will support you throughout the school year and beyond.
A Commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice.
We are committed to creating an inclusive learning environment where diverse perspectives are recognized, respected, and seen as a source of strength. We recognize that as an activity, speech and debate has a number of barriers that limits the access of various populations of students based on socioeconomic status, race, gender, ability, sexual orientation, and other identities. ISD is committed to helping to break those barriers.
Health, Safety, and Security
We have a dedicated on-campus resident life staff that supervises the students' afternoon and evening activities. We also adhere to robust community health precautions based on local, state, and federal health agency recommendations and employ a full-time nurse who lives on campus that is available around the clock should a need arise.
Financial Aid
We believe that an inclusive speech and debate community benefits everyone involved in it. Therefore, we set aside funds from our budget each year to help provide access to our programs for students who need financial assistance.
Camp Leadership
Adult faculty and staff provide experienced leadership and management in all areas of our camp. Junior counselors round out our team and are mentored by senior staff.
Skills Not Tricks
We’re committed to quality learning – in debate and in life. We win the right way.
Behavior Standards
We have a firm and unapologetic zero tolerance policy for substance use, discrimination and harassment, and other egregious behavior as outlined in our policies.
Faculty Support
We are committed to pay equity for our instructors and to professional wages that show respect.
